Oh, the horror!the horror! I, like many others, was thoroughly confused and a bit chagrined when I figured out Triumph has no hard service manual in general circulation for the new water-cooled Thruxtons. I suppose I am to believe now that all manuals of this nature are going away, most likely to discourage hobbyists from tinkering with systems that are state regulated. But too soon I found the notion of not owning a service manual for my bike was beyond irritating. So, in a perfectly indignant mood last night, I did some research and found a simple, and terribly monotonous, but practicable workaround. Things you'll need: 1.

Each Haynes manual provides specific and detailed instructions for. Overhaul of the machine, in this case the Triumph 900 & 1200, model years 2016 and 2017. In automotive and motorcycle repair, maintenance and customizing manuals.

At least $15 on your credit/debit card 2. Some experience with using a computer to 'print to PDF'.

If you don't know what that is, find a friend who does to help out 3. A decent internet connection 4.

Serene focus and patience The website Triumph keeps their service manuals on is You'll need to register and make a login/password. It won't cost you anything to register. Once your account is activated you can search by your VIN to see if your manual is there. For instance, to find my Thruxton, I gave the 'VIN, CLASSICS, NEW THRUXTON 1200'.

It'll hopefully bring you to a page with your bike, and in the left pane you'll be able to navigate to your service manual. However, when you click on the manual, it'll say you don't have a subscription and deny you access. This is where we talk about speed and money. You can pay for privileges to view the manual per hour, day, week, month, or year. It's $7.50/hr, $45/day, $180/wk, $540/mo, and $3780/yr. There's no option for a lifetime subscription, and even if there was, I'm afraid it'd be out of most of our price ranges.

So time is literally money here. The amount of money you spend on the website is directly proportional to how fast you can cycle through the pages of the online manual, while saving them to PDF. For my Thruxton 1200, I had to save approx. 600 separate pages, only later to compile them into a roughly 1200 page PDF version of the service manual.

So, if you're a speed demon, you might manage to do it in an hour. Most likely, it'll take 2-3.

If you don't mind spending extra to not be rushed, buy the day long package. You can take your time. After you've bought your desired subscription, you can go back, find your service manual and open it. At this point, your clock is ticking. (There's no indicator on the site, you just have to keep track yourself.) The manual is separated into sections by a drop-down pane on the left side of the page. You'll have to click on each separate section, and then hit the 'Print' symbol on the upper right. You should be able to select 'Print to PDF' on the printer options.

NOTE: To make things easier on yourself, make sure 'Print to PDF' is your default printer before you start this process. I used my Google Chrome browser, and saved the sections one by one into a new folder named 'Thrux manual'. I just named the PDFs in order 1.pdf, 2.pdf. 596.pdf and so on. All in all, there were 596 separate sections, hence the tedium. This procedure wasn't at all pleasant, but in the end, it had the effect I intended.

I used a free PDF merger program to compile them into one long manual (took 2 minutes), and although I don't have the ability to jump gracefully from section to section, all the content is there in the order it was written. The whole dang operation took me roughly 2 hours. The system denied me access after my first hour was up, and I had just saved the 394th section. Another $7.50, and I had it all, plus some other dealer specific goodies not in the manual (Triumph's scheduled maintenance check sheet, repair times sheet, service data sheet, etc). A few notes about legality: 1. First and foremost, I will NOT respond to any requests to send someone a copy of the manual I've just created. The Terms and Conditions on the TriTun website expressly forbid the copy, reproduction, republish, posting, broadcasting, or transmission of their data.

This post is to give you an idea of how to acquire a PERSONAL service manual, legally. The TriTun website DOES allow for the downloading and printing of content you've purchased a subscription for. Aaaaaaaand, that's it. Cheers, Kaye. I used my Google Chrome browser, and saved the sections one by one into a new folder named 'Thrux manual'.

One tip (since we're already in full-on 'tedious mode') is to save the pdf's into individual folders, named after each of the sections on the site. Thennnnnn, label each document, by opening the page online, copying the title, and using that as the document name when you save them as PDF (yes all 596).

All of this results in a nicely organized, alphabetical tree which helps navigating to the specific info you need, very quickly. Really invaluable info in this manual. Super disappointing that this is the only way to get it. (Sorry, can't share mine either).

+1 to this by bxb. That's an excellent system. I'll have to backtrack to achieve this. Way better to have done this in the beginning.

Well put, sir.
